About Chicago-Kent

Located in downtown Chicago, Chicago-Kent College of Law at Illinois Institute of Technology offers an innovative curriculum with study options in 11 specialty areas—from intellectual property law to international law to business law—and includes award-winning programs in trial advocacy and appellate advocacy. As one of the few law schools in the nation attached to a technological university, Chicago-Kent teaches students to use technology effectively to prepare for careers in an evolving legal market.

1L Your Way
Our distinctive 1L Your Way program is an optional track for full-time students that allows you to defer the required first-year course Legislation to the second year in favor of taking either an approved, upper-division elective course or a rotation through three practice areas of our in-house legal clinic. This means you’ll start gaining knowledge in specialized areas earlier in your law school career—a fact you can highlight when applying for summer jobs and externships.
Legal Writing

To a large extent, your success as a lawyer will depend on your writing skills. Chicago-Kent was the first law school in the United States to develop a three-year legal research and writing curriculum, and our program is widely acknowledged as one of the best in the nation. Even before you graduate, you’ll be thoroughly prepared to excel in summer clerkships, externships, and whatever other practice opportunities you may choose to explore.

Learn Effective Advocacy Skills
Chicago-Kent’s rigorous trial advocacy curriculum—ranked #7 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report (2023 rankings)—is led by a talented corps of judges, prosecutors, public defenders, and private practitioners.

Chicago-Kent’s Appellate Advocacy program is currently ranked #6 in the United States by the Blakely Advocacy Institute at the University of Houston Law Center (April 2022).

Legal Clinics
Chicago-Kent's unique in-house legal clinic uses a fee-generating model designed to replicate the experience of employment at a private law firm. Each year, nearly 200 clinical placements are filled by second- and third-year students who work on actual cases under the close supervision of experienced, practicing attorneys who serve on our faculty.
Future-Focused Legal Education
